my new corns

mack1time Mar 12, 2006 01:55 PM

I finally got some pics of the two corns i aquired 5 months ago. Im not too sure what kind they are but the dark one is a male im pretty sure cause when i put the two together he is dominanat and i have seen hemipenes. He is over 45 inches. The lighter one a snow????? is smaller at 33 inches is that old enough to breed because im pretty sure they have every time i put them together in the past month.

Any comments or suggestions?

well, the first one is an anerythristic, Anery for short.
Anerythrism removes the red pigment in corn snakes resulting in a greyish snake with darker grey saddles. It is very common for yellow to develope on the neck and sides.
the second one is a snow...very nice snow.
Snows are a combintaion of amelanism, which removes the black (melanin) and anerythrism which as you now know, removes the reds.
They can vary widely with some showing yellows, pinks and even greens.

both are very nice snakes.

If they have bred, then at the very least, you can expect anerys het for amelanism (amel).
Now, if by chance the anery happens to be het amel, which wouldn't be surprising, then you could get anerys and snows.

This is the way that i understand Het (I believe it is short for hetrozygous). If your babies are het for something, it basically means they will have babies that look like that het. Say they were het for normal, het for motley. It means they could have motley babies. I hope this helps.
Kat could probably explain it better.

I was going to say a nice and very interesting looking snow and "hey, you stole my snake" except you said the anery is the male. Mine is female. I don't have any new pics of her uploaded, so here is one over a year (waybe two) ago, and a pic of my snow. I did not breed these two together though. They had different partners. My anery was breed with a hypo normal male, and my snow was bred with an amel female

She was my first snake. Got her at a reptile show for $20!! Pretty good pick, Huh?! She is my favorite at this point, although, I do have a baby anery that is just black, that I have to force feed. I have kinda bonded with her through the process.

It looks like a very pretty anery to me. Here is a link to a good web site for comparing different corns.
