How to tell if Eggs are bad?

hunterjackson Mar 12, 2006 09:37 PM

I wrote in here a bit back about my new eggs, im wondering how to tell if they are bad or not. They ahve retained shape, though one has sort of colapsed, the other is a perfect "egg" shape. The one which collapsed had a bit of mold on it.

They are in moist perlite. Any help is appreciated !

How old are the eggs?

Seperate them if you have not done so already, to protect the other egg from mold.

Mold can kill an egg, usually due to, too much moisture, but not always. Colapsing egg and mold within the first week is a good sign of a infertile egg. However the best sign is it becomes smelly.

Candle the eggs with a small flash light. If the egg is pink and shows veins then it's fertile, if it's yellow, ususally it's not fertile. However don't through out an egg unless it smells and/or way past due date.

I bought cheap little LED light from the dollar store. It is the kind that comes on a key chain. It works like a professional candler. I love it and will never fork out more than a dollar again!
