You said you've been doing alot of research. What have you found? Any specific mfgrs you want feedback on?
I've tried alot of different brands of plastic caging. All can work nicely. All have pros and cons. It usually comes down to the pros and cons of the material used. Any "con" can usually be remedied somehow.
I think the best cages in the world are made by Habitat Systems. If you can afford them, your search is over. Great material, great strength, great insulation, not heavy, looks like furniture.
Plastics -
High Density Polyethylene, aka HDPE - ala Vision, Showcase Cages, Northwest Constrictors, etc. Super tough plastic, extremely durable, real easy to clean. If the room is cool, you may need to put some insulation on the outside walls and back of the cage for tropical animals. In warmer rooms no problem.
PVCx, aka expanded PVC - almost everybody uses this. Light-weight, insulates well. The 1/4" thickness is used alot for 3 and 4 ft cages. That is OK I guess, but I'd rather see 3/8". Just look on the Classifieds here on kingsnake.com under Cages/Supplies. So many to choose from. Not as strong as HDPE, but strong enough. Real easy to repair or cement PVC attachments to it.
High Density Polystyrene, aka HDPS - ala herpcages.com. Very tough plastic, very rigid. I have alot of good things to say about cages made from this stuff. Great for small cages and large cages.
ABS - reminds me of HDPS somewhat. I think this is a fantastic material for cages. The great Neodesha caging used this. There is one mfgr on the classifieds using this material now for cages.
