My little is favoring his eye

veiledbrian Mar 13, 2006 09:29 AM

He opens it whI put my hand in the cage and when he is about to eat. But the remainder of the time he keeps it closed. I'm assuming he got something in it. I have seen him rub his eye once on the climbing vine in his cage. What can I do to help him? I've have never had many problems with my other chameleons so I don't have much experience when dealing with things like this.

Darwin (dragon)just spent almost a whole week trying ot get his eye "clean." I misted him a lot (fortunately he loves it) and when he let me I rubbed it lightly. I could not see the piece but he was shedding on that side of his head so I was sure that's wht it was. he kept the ye closed much fo the time. It did not get infected or anything and he is now fine. So that may be what your new guy is dealing with. If you use a fine, warm mist from above that just lands on his head (and he doesn't know it is coming from you! lol!)
it may help. If his eye seems OK in every other way I would not worry too much.

Btw, can you post a pic of him without the enhanced blue so we can see his real color? Please don't be offended by that, depending on your photo program it is easy to add too much color easily. Since I have my newbie nosy be and is only about one month younger than yous I'd like to see the changes as they both mature!

He seems fine other than his eye. He has rubbed it once that I have seen. He is still spunky and roaming the cage and eatting. I guess I will have to wait and see. the only photo I have of him that was not affected by my now crappy camera is the one I will post here Like I said, my camera had a beer spilled on it and I can seem to get rid of the blue tinge unless the lighting is just right and I dont use the flash. He is shedding in this picture.

Sounds like my house! Squig had a "thing" with his eye...same exact thing that you are describing. I pondered on whether I should act, or leave things be ( a post a while back by Vegas Billy stuck in my head) I did as LELE stated...misted and tried to get it on his body (he hates the mist). It took about a week, (never any signs of stress or infection) then I noticed a piece of shed hanging out. The next day it was gone and he has been fine since. I think that with their little eyes, it might be tough sometimes to get rid of all of that skin...I have a heavy branch in my cornsnake cage...she uses that to shed. Squig tried the ficus leaves, but they just bent. Eventually, it all fell off!

All in all, I let nature be...and things worked out.

Good luck with your baby!

Kris

PS...I've posted before, but this pic cracks me up!

Put him on a plant in the shower. The thicker water should help wash anything out. I put mine in for about 30 minutes and check on them every 5 or so while I'l working.

Some find it tramatizing at the beggining, but all of them calm down within minutes.
