Chameleon presentation - DONE!

eric adrignola Mar 13, 2006 09:48 AM

Well, Saturday, I setup a table (actually2) and did two presentations on
chameleons at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences' "Herp Day" event.

It went very well, though Ardi, my Melleri, was stressed for the first few
hours. She relaxed after the presentaton, even eating a big orange
headed roach in front of the live audience.

The male calyptratus was nervous, but not too bad. The deremensis,
not surprisingly, couldn't care less. They went about their buisness as if
nothign changed from the day before. Eating in front of crowds,
drinking, never making an attempt to hide...just relaxed. Typical.

Lots of fun.

How many chameleons do you have?? I think that must have been exciting to talk about something you love, and to be able to convey the issues that you think are important. What an awesome opportunity!!!

It was fun. I brought my melleri, two deremensis, and a veiled. As well as some superworms and roaches. I left the big veiled and his mate at home.

It was more of an educational event, and I noticed some kids gettign bored when I discussed husbandry issues - so I started to skirt past that stuff in the second "show". when I do these for reptile shows, I'll concentrate on husbandry.

They were just interested in the animals themselves. When you pull a 17" long, wavy-crested, horned lizard out of a tree that was sitting there for a half hour, and NOBODY noticed it the whole time, you get lots of cool reactions.

I'm supposed to do a presentation for the NC herp society next month, and a more informative lecture (with animals ) at the NC reptile show in May.

what was the age range of the kids? Must have been a lot of WIDE eyes!! Neat that you are able to do this
