Anyone keep common house gecko ?

Bianca Mar 13, 2006 11:04 AM

Hello
I am interested in common house geckos they are sold in my local pet store as feeder lizards but I find them neat and wanted to buy 4 for a 20 gallon extra high tank.

I have a few questions for house gecko keepers -

I have no idea how to sex them will 2 or more males do okay in 20 gallon extra high tank?
I intend to decorate it with branches, bamboo corkbark background so will have hide areas.

Ideal day, night temps? I intend to heat tank with overhead red or black reptile incandescent with dimmer to increase or lower temp.

I imagine they drink like anoles with mist from spray ?
will crickets and wax worms be enough thats all I have access to ?
Any info, advice, etc would be great .
thanks.

Hi, Although I do not keep any, (think they are cool looking) from having geckos, I do know the males have preanal and femoral pores.

And below is a care sheet with some of the info you have asked for. Wish ya the best, post some pics when your ready

Thanks a lot for site. It did say males can be terretorial which I suspected.
I am going to see if I can sex them as the store has adults . I found a pic with male/female difference. This way will get only 1 male in the group. the tank has branches, etc so they can avoid each other but I prefer to avoid that .
Thanks
