How many times a wk do people feed?

tc_legacy Mar 13, 2006 12:05 PM

This is a fairly basic question but I wanted to hear some input anyway... How often do others here feed their adult leos? Every 2-3 days? Twice a wk? I suppose it somewhat depends on the leos but I'd interested to hear what has worked well for others, particularly breeders..

well i am a small breeder, i have about 23 leos and african fat tailed geckos adults/babies and 5 eggs on the way. i feed all of my geckos everynight! i dont know why people feed every few days. some of mine will eat as many as 10 crickets every night.
i personally keep a chart so i can give each gecko as many as they will eat so there are none left over. the minimum i feed every night is 5 to each gecko. their maine food is crickets, no meal worms, but ocaisionaly waxworms and pinkies.

Hi,

So you don't have any problems with obesity? Not confronting you, just asking. I used to feed my guys every other day (mealies mostly, sometimes crix or supers, occasionally waxworms) and I found that my male blizzard especially was getting too fat so I've been trying to cut him back all winter. But then I gutload my bugs pretty heavily (mealies live in fresh bran (sometimes a handful or quaker's oats mixed in) with carrots/potatoes etc) so maybe that's part of why my leos were getting too fat.

no, no overly fat fatties or leos here. i feed my crickets carrots and the same chicken feed the cricket farm uses, i live near it. matter of fact i wish some of them where bigger/fatter. heres a pic of two, and if they are fat then i just dont know what to say.
these two eat differntly, the african fat tail eats 10 crix a night and the leo only eats a few everyother night. so anyways everyone is different.

I feed all my adults 2-3 times a week. I know that they would eat every day if i did feed them, but they are all nice and plump with big fat tails, so i dont feel it necessary to feed em every day. They do get as much as they want to eat whenever they are fed though.
I guess it is just personal preference. Whatever works for you and your geckos, as long as they are doing well and are healthy and happy

I feed 2-3 times a week... Crickets, and/or roaches. Occasionally other worms, and rarely a pinkie as a treat.
