My vent tad litterally just blew up, like the skin ripped and the inard shot out. Could my water have been too pure?
I have been trying to figure that issue out too.
I don't know what is causing it, because it doesn't happen with all of the tads in a clutch. If I have 10 vent tads & the water I use if from the same source (tadpole tea), 2 or 3 will 'blow up' and the rest will be fine.
If I was having this happen with all of my tadpoles, I would believe it was the water, but it only happens on a few vent tads.

Do they really blow up alive or do they just die then fermentation dilates them and blow them up with the same end result??
They probably died and the water moves into the cells and body by osmosis causing it to rupture. It would explain why only some of the tads in the clutch explode.
The weird part of this is, the tads appear to be healthy, except for the bloating. They eat, poop, etc...but just seem to resemble a ballon a little more each day. One day you look in there and there isn't much left - it looks like they blew up.
I will try to get some pics and post them, it is really weird.
