To all those living in Gray-band land:

BlueKing Mar 13, 2006 05:37 PM

Just wondering: What is the earliest sighting (during a given season) of a gray band on a road-cut, crossing the highway or moving about during darkness? March/April?
Thanks,
(Pics of a pair of WCs from last year)

Thanks! Those two were found near Langtry last year. (I and Todd (Antelope), found four Graybands in 24 hours last June: Two males and two females !!!). It was an awesome trip.
Were the ones that were found in April found very late at night or in the evening hours? Thanks again!

The ones collected in April were found on the road between 9:30 and 10:30pm.

I found a DOR on Juno road on April 9th a few years back when we had a warm wet spring. It was hit just after dark by the tire testers.

Yeah, that's how I found my very first Alterna many years ago in June - on the road in the S - curves, ran over by those tire testers (which means it really got ran over THREE times within a few seconds!!!)

found stretched out in the middle of Juno Rd.

Just got back from a Spring Break Trip and it's very cold at night still at high elevation but that didn't keep the milks from being under surface rocks in the afternoon (Presidio county).

The only diurnal type seen was a Whipsnake in the Davis Mtns. I was hoping to find an early Hogggie but no luck there.

Historically the average for the first alterna of the year would be second or third week of April (nocturnally active).

Last week. 3/15/06 at approx 13:30 hours - both males. E-mail me if you want the locality, I won't post it here. I'm 100% sure you've either hunted or drove through this spot.

I had a camera with me but it was a 4x5 landscape camera. virtually no way to get an exposure of them with that rig.
Had I found a female I would have kept a pair, but both popped male easily.
