A couple of gravid females

EmberBall Mar 13, 2006 06:19 PM

The female that laid the EmberBall eggs is gravid again this year. I really hope to produce more than just two babies from her this year. She was not bred to the Hypo male again. She just shed, I sprayed her enclosure when I saw she was in the blue, but she still has a strip of shed on her. When my females are gravid, I do not bother them, and will keep spraying her enclosure and put a piece of plastic over her tub for a few days vs. manually taking it off. I usually put any poor shedders in my melamine rack for a few days, but do not want to move her. The malamine rack is totally enclosed, and I always have great success with full one piece sheds in there.

The second female is a nice normal that I have had for a few years. I think she has a nice look to her, or maybe it is just her pregnant "glow."

First pic taken of Ember female today, second pic is of Ember female last year, third pic is of normal female taken today.

Did the ember male breed her? That should tell you what they are if he did. Thanks David

The Ember male is one of two that could be the father of any eggs I get from her this year, the other possibility is a Pastel. Really wish I had a breedable Pied male

If you're so determined to prove out your 'Embers' as being another line of Fires why would you bring in a second male, besides the Ember, for breeding? Why "muddy the waters" further?

Not flaming you, just a curiosity I have. In all honesty, I DO hope you have a new line of Fires.

Afterall, between Lessers, Mojaves, YellowBellies, Russo Lemons, Fires, and to an extent Phantoms, it will be sooner than later that prices come down, giving the average herper a chance to own or produce one of the various 'white balls'.

The EmberBalls were born late last year, and the male Ember was borderline breedable when I started putting males and females togather this year. I was also torn between feeding the Embers, the two babies, and placing the male in with the adult female and not feeding him as often. Anyways, I never witnessed any copulation between the Ember and the adult female, but they were left overnight on a few occasions, and I did not pull up a chair and sit and stare at them continuously. I put the Pastel male in after the Ember male, as a back up. I figured Pastel Embers would be better than no Embers this year. I do not think it muddies the water at all. The Ember male will be ready to go next year to more than just his mother, and if I breed him to a normal, and get Embers, then it proves them as Dom or Co Dom. If he breeds his mother next year, assuming I do not prove them out this year, then I should know for sure if they are Fires or something different. Also, if I get a Pastel Ember this year, and he is an early bloomer and breeds early next year, I would probably breed him to the adult female next year. I am really looking foreward to breeding the two Ember babies that are het Hypo togather. Anyways, that is the reasoning...
