Maybe try going to a reptile vet and explaining your situation. When I was a little younger (I'm 23 now) my vet always gave me a deal when I brought multiple animals in. Or maybe you could ask him to remove it and you could pay for it later when you have money. I hope your vet is understanding.

The soaking will take at least a few days if done right...Get a sterilite tub that the boa will fit in but still need to be coiled up...then use luke warm water but make sure boa can lay in water but keep head out of the water....you can splash water on the head every once in a while...keep whole tub with snake in it inside the cage....to keep warm. Soak for several hours each day checking off and on. When out of water use spray bottle to mist the boa...then within a few days to a week the boa will start a shed cycle, keep doing this until the boa sheds.
Then to ensure it does not happen again, use cypress mulch....make sure it is pure CYPRESS mulch about 3 bucks a bag at the garden stores....Never use pine or Cedar....they are poison!! Cypress holds water content well and when heating with lamps it will take alot of heat before drying out.

Hope this helps, Andy Federico
