My boa passed away, any idea why?

DrasticPlastic Mar 13, 2006 09:34 PM

I've had an anery boa that I got as a baby for about 5 months now, he has always eaten good sized F/T meals about once a week or so, deficated normal, always drank water and acted normal. His temps were about 80-90 on the hot side and 65-75 on the cool side. (it was the best I could do in a glass tank) The only thing that seemed out of place was that out of the whole time I have had him, he has just recently shed the one time. He was given fresh water last night about 10pm and he was alert and nothing seemed out of place. I got home from work today around 530pm and found him coiled up, under his hide. His body was soft but near his cloca (spelling?) was really hard. Any ideas of what might have caused this would be appriciated. Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your boa. I have know idea what might have been the problem. Only thing is your temps were way off. 65 on the cool end. Boas should be kept at 80 to 85 on the cool end.
Again, I'm sorry for your loss.

I'd use high 70's for a cool end, but that's me

Take your snake (refridgerated) to the vet and have it sent for necropsy. They usually don't cost too much.
