Getting Worse---

metaldad904 Mar 14, 2006 08:19 AM

Hey all,

Mary (my green female conda)is getting worse it seems. I thought she might be making a recovery for a little while, she was getting more active and i even got her to take a pinky a few days ago. Well, things aren't going to well as of today. I went and checked on her before going to work, her breathing is bad again, wheezing again, and i can see mucus around her mouth. It doesn't look good, and i can tell there has been some weight loss. She doesn't seem to be keeping herself hydrated....even though i see her in her soaking tub fairly often. I've been keeping the temps at a consistent 90-94 degrees 24hrs a day, doesn't seem to be helping anymore. I'm really worried about her...i'm starting to think that stupid vet didn't know wtf he was talking about. I have an appointment for tomorrow, but i don't think i should wait. I'm going to see if they can squeeze me in 2day, she definitely needs meds. He should have just prescribed them the first time, i hate this "let's wait and see BS." I understand that meds & antibiotics are hard on the body & digestive track, but i think that being "safe than sorry" is smarter. Odds are that the antibiotic isn't going to kill her, but an out of control RI will......

Sorry, i'm just really upset. I may have not had this little girl for very long, but she's mine, and she's my pet, not just some snake. I care for her, and it really really pisses me off how unhealthy she is. The stupid guy who my wife got her from won't even return my messages anymore. I know he got her from a "certain" breeder we are all aware of here. I'm just disappointed in how some people regard these beautiful creatures as commodities & dollar signs versus living beings. I'm still not giving up on her....she's my baby, and i will do whatever i can to make her whole again. I just can't help but to feel very frustrated.....

I'll be taking her to the vet today, so i will give you all an update on the results. Thanks for any responses in advance

Hey Sorry about your Green. Hope all goes well. I have a female
green doing great eating well, still a little on the watch it I am not in the handling mode Like all females just kidding. I may have to give her up she all ready has out grown her tank.
Dont give up on her she may pull thru. Anacondas are hardy snakes. Hope the vet will have a solution for her condition. God luck. Dave

Alright, took Mary to the vet yesterday. I saw a different doctor this time (i made sure of that) who was awesome. So nice, very knowledgable. As expected, she has a really bad respiratory infection. She has lost about 130 grams in the past couple weeks. It was pretty bad, it was breaking my heart to see her like this. The vet put her on antibiotics. One is administered orally every 12 hours, i think it was called Cindrops or something like that. The other is one i have to inject intramuscularly, it's called Bayotral i believe. The vet gave her a bunch of fluids and force fed her 4 pinkies. I have to agree, she needs the nutrients now. I have a follow-up in 5 days to see how she's doing, if she doesn't show some improvement we're going to have to hospitalize her. So, i'm keeping my fingers crossed that she will pull through. I'll let everyone know as thing progress.

thanks again
Jason

Hang in there Jason. For what its worth, Baytril has worked wonders for R.I. in my experince. The fequency of injection is a pain in the ass, but the results can be dramatic.

Thanks Bill, i appreciate it. I have high hopes, but don't worry, i won't be giving up. It's not even the frequency of injections that bugs me, i just hate having to put her through so much. She's gonna hate me....

thanks again

length and weight a couple of weeks ago?

Kelly

metaldad904 Mar 15, 2006 01:29 PM

Kelly--Her length and weight were 36 inches and 532 grams...currently at 401. She was really dehydrated, even while soaking, which she still was and is doing fairly often. I gave her the oral meds this morning before leaving for work, she did pretty well, wasn't too difficult. Yesterday it was awful, she had a hard time getting the antibiotic down b/c of the mucus. Seemed a lot better this morning though, less mucus, little more alert, breathing sounded slightly better. I'm keeping a close eye on her, i'll be giving her her first in-home injection in a few hours when i get off work. They aren't so bad, doesn't seem to bother her. She's been such a champ...i'm really happy she's fighting so hard cuz i'm not going to give up on her, i don't care how much money i've spent fixing this, she's my pet and i'm not going to let her die. If i have to hospitalize her, i'm going to, no question about it. Thanks for the concern

Rob--nice lol. I have emailed both RR & the guy my wife bought Mary from (who got it from RR) many times, including yesterday. Of course, no responses. So, after i get Mary healthy, it's on. I have refrained from naming the guy in hopes of at least maybe talking it out w/him. I've been patient and nice, and i'm not even asking for a refund, i just want a goddamn apology. He's been a new breeder on the classifieds lately, more frequently on them as of late and is on the reptile auction site. I'm giving him 1 week, then i'm naming names. I really think people need to be warned about this and it needs to stop. If anyone wants to know, just email me and i'll tell you.

thanks again for all of your help, advice and concern, it's always appreciated.

yeah mine refuse again today, been over a month,in this month i have tried frzn/thwd rats, live rats, and a live chick.no success,in the 13 years i have been bothering reptiles i have NEVER lost a snake for this reason, but now i am getting worried.he appears healthy as can be,no resp. problems, mouth is healthy looking, and really hasn't lost much weight since i have had him...he shed once and has crapped twice...which seems about a normal snake to me,he is active at times and then spends 2-4 days straight in his box(filled with carefresh for humidity).i am stumped.

I feel your pain rob......good luck, i hope he pulls through for you.

i'm on day 3 of the antibiotics....she seems a little better. Her breathing isn't as labored, mucus is less, she's a little more active. Definitely no fun injecting her, even w/me and my friend holding her down it's hard to keep her still. Have another appointment on Monday.

LET'S GIVE A BIG HAND TO RR for hooking us both up with sick snakes...........and getting away with it.

haha that is soooo funny that is the pic that crook sent me when i asked for a specific male he was ending me.just deplorable....you know who you are....you need to give up the animal business, and go work at MCdonald's.

joeysgreen Mar 21, 2006 03:42 PM

She sure is beautifull. In my opinion, this is what the "perfect" conda would look like. The green, the soft but definate spots, and the stark, bold orange contrasting mask. Just a beaut!
