Caging

I really want to get a corn snake for college, we are allowed to keep pets. But i only have room I think for a 10 gallon aquairum, is there anyway that I can keep a corn snake in a 10 gallon aquarium? Most sites ive read say 20 gallon long, but just wondering if anyone keeps them successfully in a 10 gallon. thanks

You can cage a corn in a 10 gallon. The problem is once you put a water bowl and a hide box the snake doesn't have much room. It really isn't fair to the snake. You can get rid of the hid box if you use bedding that the snake can hide under (ie shredded aspen), but the water bowl should be big enough for the snake to swim in (to assist at shedding time). So to answer your question, depending on how quickly the snake grows, a 10 gallon tank should be ok for the first two years or so.

It probably won't be the best idea for an adult corn. A 20gal. long is 30" long and a 10gal. is 20" long. The width and the height are the same. If you have room for a 10gal. tank then you could probably find enough room for the extra 10". Like the other person who responded, once you gt an ample water dish and hide rock then the 10gal. is getting small.

Good Luck,
