Found about 16 newly emerged garters in a pasture behind my house. It was about 72 on Sunday and they were all out sunning.

I thought this guy was extremely nice.

We realeased them all near the site of capture. I didn't want to interfere too much with their first sunny day :O) It really has cooled down here again too. I'm not comfortable released them when the weather is cold, so we set them all free the same day. The kids were able to find two more that night around 7:00 in the same area and those two are still in my basement. We will release them soon. I think I have two subspecies. Some appear to be red-sided and the others look pretty common.
