Snake hasn't pooped

vweater2001 Mar 14, 2006 02:40 PM

I'm concerned with my baby redtail boa!! I've had her for 2 weeks she's feed both weeks on ft/fuzzies with no problems, But I'm worried that she hasn't dropped a stool yet. She also hasn't urinated and just want how long they normally take to do either or? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

How's the temps? The temps should be 80 to 85 degrees. If the temps are ok do not worry. Two weeks is nothing for a boa to go without defecating. Boas when growing hold and use alot of the prey animal they are fed.

Also, when they are near the shed cycle, they seem to hold onto it longer.

Temperatures are between 85-90 degrees and 80 degrees at night time is that o.k. I'm also worried that my snake seems kind of on the thin side. I'm used to my python's as they are thicker and the boa seems kind of slender even after eating. My snake is about 2 1/2 ft and I'm giving her 1 f/t fuzzy/hopper every friday for the 2 weeks I've had her. Am I under feeding her or what? Please advise and thanks for your replies.

Sounds like you may be underfeeding her. F/T fuzzy/hopper, Mouse or rat? Mouse would definately be way too small, rat would also likely be too small. There should be a noticeable lump in her tummy right after swallowing, should last at least a couple of days. Prey item should be about same size diameter as largest diameter of boa.

If you are underfeeding her, very good reason she has not pooped.

How about if I give her 2 f/t fuzzy/hopper mice. I have a bag of 100 frozen. Would that do in her being under fed. Let me know so I can start this friday. Thanks.

Increasing the quantity would be an ok short term fix. When feeding, there should be a noticeable lump in the belly. Not a huge bloated looking lump. Think of ti this way, if the appropriate sized food is the same diameter as the thickest part of the snake, imagine how it'd look bulged out with that inside. That's the bulge you're going for.
