Health Questions

Hi all, Zach here again,

I'm having this cloud of confusion with my BD. Here is what I have in mind:

I recieved him about 1 year ago as a baby through a promotion give-away. He has had a UV bulb until know, but I have only been dusting his food with Calcium and Vit.3 (Rep-Cal) since June. He is about 10 inches long and looks pretty healthy. Do you think I might have messed him up in anyway due to not dusting food items sooner?

He eats a diet of mixed dark leaved greens (bok choy, collard, romaine, etc) with about 6 superwoms (dusted) daily. I know too much worms may be bad, but in his stool, i can see he is able to pass the hard shells. I know variety is key, so i will buy some bulk crickets as well as superworms at the next IRBA show. Any comments about this diet? He goes to the bathroom about everyother day.

Thank you and if you want, here is a link to see some of his pictures: http://www.geocities.com/sf_snakes/gallery.html

He is a bit small and yes, he should have been getting supplements earlier in life. He is only going to the bathroom every other day? Usually average is daily. I would not continue feeding the worms daily. I use them as treats once a week. My dragons get fresh veg and fruit daily with Rep cal pellets mixed in. I also feed Ectotherm moist foods and they LOVE it. Make sure your temps are right too..... if he isn't pooping daily, he may not be digesting his food as quickly as he should be. You can give him some added protein maybe.. such as dry puppy food, just make sure they are not too big for him.

not dusting his food defatinly, in my opinion, would have effected his growth, its good that you are doing so now but you should also provide UVB lighting such as a mercury vapor bulb or natural outdoor sunshine. Definatly dust daily and feed him a calcium rich diet, a salad with a base of collard greens is a good way to start, you can add to that bok choy, dandelion greens, endive, escarole etc. Has your little guy seen a vet within the year you have had him? i would get a fecal done and also explain to the vet your husbandry over the year so he knows his history, hope this helps some, best of luck with him.
