MISC BEARDIE QUESTIONS

keith_ecko Jul 28, 2003 11:44 AM

Just wanted to ask a few questions that I found myself pondering....Are Bearded Dragons like iguana's in the aspect that the enclosure be left the same all the time? Can I rearrange things to make it more interesting or does this confuse them? Do they carry Salmanella like other lizards and should I follow the same type of care that I did with Iguana's? What type of "FURNISHINGS" go into a Beardie setup and what size is best? And any links to ONLY good reputable breeders???

THANKS ALLOT...KEITH

I change the "lay out" of my tanks every time I completely clean them. All reptiles can carry salmonella.... one week they can test positive and the next negative. It is naturally occuring in their gut. Furnishings can be simple or not. Basically they need a basking rock, a climbing branch (which can also be used for basking) and I use children's playsand.... BEFORE I get yelled at by someone else here.... I have NEVER had any die from impaction (Knock on wood)
Now.. links to reputable breeders..... I have to say talk to people who have Beardeds, ask where they got them from, if they are happy with their dragon and it's health etc. Word of mouth is the best way to find a good breeder. Of course, you could also check out my site Had to throw that in there!

Chris Allen at www.jerseydragons.com is a great breeder I got a few from him. You can take a look at my pics by hitting Mystical Dragons below.

Rob and Vicki at www.dachiu.com have some nice babies. I got a hypo pastel from them this season that is just outstanding. His pic is on that page too.

Brandon at www.dragonsbynature.com has a few really nice crosses for sale. Never bought from him but sure would if I had the room.

Joel also had nice babies this year. He does not have a webpage but he comes to this forum a lot, and may have some on the classifieds.

Hope this helps a bit. These breeder are people that I bought from, or would recomend to others with faith that you will recieve the best help, and the best quality. Good Luck.

well if you are looking for a good breeder look no more then this forum. joel r is an awesome breeder with awesome i mean AWESOME dragons(seen them all myself). as for your other questions beardies are different from iguana's. they need higher temps. and for food beardies eat crickets , mealworms , superworms and some other types of worms, veggies and their greens. from my expeirence beardies are WAY better lizards then iguanas. their not mean and dont get as big as iguana's do. and for a cage all you need is sand(i use playsand from your local home depot) , food/water dishes , a little place for them to hide and something to climb on. when your beardie is full grown you would need a 55gal tank MIN. bigger is better. but for young dragons 10-25gal is what i have mine in. hope i helped a little
