Should i get a boa?

freon546 Mar 14, 2006 06:00 PM

I was thinking about getting a boa. I want a snake that i can handle on a regular basis without it getting too stressed. I have a ball python and she gets really stressed out all the time.

I posted this in the ball python forum, what are yall's opinions on ball pythons vs boas?

>

should i get a boa, or are they not much better about the whole timid thing?

sry for the long post

Boas can be the best large pet snake. Many when raised from a baby and regularly handled have a docile disposition. I have never owned a ball python so I cannot compare them to boas. But if you are looking for a beautiful large snake that can be handled, then I recommend a boa.

A ford dealer if you should buy a ford...LOL...

I'd say there is a type of boa to suite just about anybodys needs, big, small, medium, just about every color that a snake could have and some that they shouldn't have. Just ask yourself what your ready to take on realisiticly and go from there.

I would think it really depends on the snake. I'm sure some boas would have no problem with 30-60 min a day. And I'm sure some boas would be stressed out. I know this isn't the answer you were really looking for, but this is what I would guess from my short time working with boas. I would say get one from a show. Try to find one that seems relaxed. This might be hard to find considering they have been stuck in a little container for a while but this is what I would do. I say go for it. Good luck.

I own a couple ball pythons and a boa. Saw your post on the other forum also, and am not quite sure what to think about your ball I would just keep trying, maybe covering her with something while you have her out till she calms down. But keep trying.

OK back to the Boa forum They are great also. They get longer and heavier, but they're pretty mellow. Mine's pretty flighty when first bought out but he settles down after a few minutes and will ride on my neck for almost ever or I get tired of the weight, which ever comes first . Good luck. Hope this helps.
