female not doing well

lisarenee Mar 14, 2006 06:35 PM

OK, I just got these 2 water dragons (male 29" long and female 21" long)a week ago, and got the temps and feeding situation corrected. They were very thin when I got them and not eating. The male is eating as of 3 days ago, no problem..the female wasnt, so I fed her baby food with a syringe...sweet potatoe and apples, and Chicken and rice...I fed her like that for 2 days....she took it fine, didnt object to it, but now she is extremely bloted, and not moving around hardly at all...I mean REALLY bloated....I may just be hysterical, which my fiancee says I am, but I think her breathing is off too.....HELP!! I am leaving in 2 days to go out of town for 4 days, and am frantic.......

Have you had a fecal sample done???

No, Cloud Dancer....I haven't seen her poop at all.....I just separated them this evening, and she seems to not be so bloated tonight, so I am hoping that she will start eating on her own without him harrassing her... I can monitor them easier separately, I think..thank you for responding!! I'll keep you posted, as I am sure I'll have 100 more questions....

If she is not pooping at all, she may be impacted. You can administer a couple drops of mineral oil. Also, try a warm bath and gently massage her belly.

Is she peeing at all? You should be seeing some white stuff in her water - those are urates. If you don't, she is probably dehydrated. Try giving her a bit of gatorade.

Hope this helps, and good luck!
