? about burned ball I just purchased...

JDouglas Mar 14, 2006 07:28 PM

I was at a pet store and found a big female ball for sale that had been previously burned on its belly. It was completely healed but scarred quite a bit. It was also in shed. The pet store owner said she orginally sold her as a hatchling to a local customer who later returned her. She then sold her to the customer who burned her. This customer later returned her to the store after burning her. After healing she was sold again and again she was returned to the store after a couple weeks. I decided to take a chance so I purchased her for $50. She is very calm and has excellent weight. When I got home she shed and her scars seemed to be even less noticable. I have her quarantined at my brothers house.

I plan on using her for a breeder next season and was wondering if anyone has ever bred a snake that had previously been burned? Is it possible that her ovaries and all of her egg follicles were cooked sunny side up when she was burned and she would now be infertile? Has anyone bred a previously burned snake that was fully healed?

Either way I plan on keeping her because she has been through enough.

Very doubtful. One of my best breeding females was severely burned, healed and shows no signs now.

I bought a adult female a couples months ago that was a family pet. She had some what healed belly burns, previous owner had her on a rock heater. I bred her this season (2800 grams) and she just ovulated a week ago and was the best 100 bucks I spent this year.

My job is as a dog food representative in a pet store. I know at least 10 big balls were brought in to trade last year. That was before I thought about breeding. There has not been any this year, but I figure there will be at some point. And when someOne decides they don't want a pet anymore they tend to bring them to a pet store.

I agree with Jay, my original het albino female was severely burned when her heating device malfunctioned as a youngin'. She is severely scarred on her belly, but she has no problems with any life events - feeding, digesting, pooping or laying eggs. Good luck with her. Those pet store females are great finds aren't they!
