A surprise I found in a pet shop

kylescott Mar 14, 2006 07:28 PM

Walked in to a pet shop today and look what I found. I saw the snake from a far and thought I hope its a female. And then I saw the stripe down its back and I got really excited. Popped the ball, its a female. She has a really nice stripe, only has one break. I am very happy with her, just weighed her at 2000 grams. Has anyone proven these kind of striped snakes before? I kind of doubt there genetic. What do you guys think of her?

Kyle

Looks different than alot of the striped Balls I've seen that DIDN'T prove genetic.

Looks to have a few 'oddities' in the side pattern. As well, the 'jagged' edge to the stripe is quite similair to the dorsal stripe on the Mojave Stripes produced a couple seasons back by Jeremy Stone.

At the time, Jeremy wasn't saying exactly what the 'Striped' parent looks like. Much like Jared is keeping hush about what the Striped parent of his YellowBelly Stripes looks like.

My guess? Both Jeremy and Jared's 'inheritable' co-dom/dom Stripes aren't anything too spectacular visually speaking, and are more common than they'd like. Think about it, if the Striped parents of the Mojave & YellowBelly Stripes are actually kind of common in collections there's not much to prevent people from making their own combos when they realize they probably already have a co-dom/dom Stripe in their collection.

Makes perfect 'business sense' to keep hush-hush on what these proven dom/co-dom stripes actually look like.

Just some personal opinions/musings.

Congrats on the new snake and Good Luck proving her out.

Yeap, you sure got lucky. It is hard enough to find Big Normal females. To say the least females with a nice stripe down the back, Its probably not genetic as far as the stripe goes but I would still breed it with a mojave or yellow belly, You just never know. I have found adult male yellow bellies before at very cheap prices say less than 100.00. So you just never know what you may find, but you do have to know what you are looking for. Kool snake anyway. Good luck. Thanks David
