It seems like the more places you give them to hide, the more you see them. I think it's because they feel more secure that way. My female is visible more often than not. My little male stays in his hide box all day and then heads for his branch perch all night.
It sounds like you haven't had it very long. It does take them a while to get used to their cages, and they are sensitive to cage changes, especially if it's too big. It's best to start them in smaller cages and then move them up to larger ones as they grow.
I think JCP's are one of the best display snakes there is because they are visible a lot. Both of mine spend a lot of time perched in branches. The only snake that's a better display snake IMHO is the green tree python. They are always perched on a branch visibly. The JCP's are just easier to hold than the GTP's, again IMHO.
Good luck, and I hope you love yours as much as I love mine,
Kirk

do u need a hidebox with a carpet?
also, how fast would one outgrow a 30gal cage, which is 2 1/2 ft long. If it helps, im looking into a jungle.

yes you do need a hide. although some people use a piece of driftwood in lieu of a hide. i would say a carpet depending on type would outgrow the tank in 1.5-2 years. also, im not sure if Les's name is copyrighted or not. might want to check on that.
