don't have camera so no pics. Today day cruising i found 3 southern black racers, 1 blue garter, 1 Tantilla, a DOR eastern indigo with a corn snake hanging out of its gut. Tonight i collected two black swamp snakes, 1 baby eastern mud snake, 2 florida watersnakes., a penninsular ribbon, a yellow rat,.2weeks ago, On a trip to boyntown beach, florida to see my sister when time allowed i went collecting. I caught curly tailed lizards both species. Some hemidactylus maboia, bark anoles, brown anoles, brahimy blind snakes, both the island glass, and the penninsular glass lizard. Some marine toads, a black racer and some miscelaneous animals. I spotted both the spiny tailed and green iguanas around the canals alongside the roadways. i collected over 175 reptiles in about a half days effort. Theres tons of lizards but i didn't come across too many snakes. I only collected in parking lots i didn't have a lot of time to search for better spots but i'm sure there are some. Just thought i would share the info. Nathan

You're saying that you collected over 175 reptiles, or you saw over 175 reptiles?

wow, thats a lot to collect, what do you do with all those specimens??

herphunter911 Mar 15, 2006 11:24 PM

Any thing of that i don't find regularly or is of some value i keep for myself. Alot of my animals go to the California Academy of Science, tissue and blood samples for dna testing and what not. And alot of stuff i catch and release it depends on what type of collecting trip i'm on. Nathan

Interesting, that just seemed a lot of animals to keep in a half day, or at all, unless collecting for a specific study.

well like kc matt said, that sure is a lot of specimens to collect, and what do you mean by if they have value? money value? hmmmm....

by value i mean species from localities i have not collected. Different bloodlines, different patterns, feeding habits.

Sounds like a rape on the local populations, not that one person would make a significant dent for most species, but perhaps you'd do some good targeting non-native species.?.
