humid hide concerns!

mkco79 Mar 14, 2006 10:26 PM

Hello Gecko peeps!
We have a young leo gecko and he seems to spend all his time on the hot side of the tank under a half log. he has a humid hide in the middle of his tank that is right on the outside edge of the UTH but i never see him in it day or night! Should there be concern that he spends all his time on the hot side or the fact that he never seems to use his humid hide? Anyone think i should take the log out every now and then so he will go inside the humid hide? One more thing just wanted to know if other geckos did the same or if ours has a problem or is just weird... He seems to wink a lot. Not the same eye all the time but sometimes he will keep the left open and close the right or vise versa! Any comments on that? Thanks for those who reply its much appreciated!

Happy herping!

i know we keep our leo's humid hide on the warm side along with a dry hide on warm side...it may be too cool in the middle for your little one...whats your temps in the tank???...my set up is a dry and humid on warm side calci dish and water dish in middle, dry hide on cool uth on warm side, and a black light to help maintain warm side temps....good luck

ps if he is keeping one or more eyes shut he may be dry try moving his humid hide to warm side and log to middle to see what happens

Ill definitly try the rearranging.
One more question i have and i already posted the question with our pics but notto sure how many responses we will get there. Has anyone ever heard, thought about or used a thin corkboard material for substrate? Nothing real thick or anything like that just the thin stuff you can line drawers with or use as padding. Like the cork pieces they use on coasters! Really curious about this one!

Thanks all!!

Mine do the same thing. They are provided with several hides all over the enclosures and niether of them are ever observed using the hides. They each have a log tunnle they spend all day in on the hot side just above the heating pads. my recomendation is if you have enough hides for them to choose and they dont use them then dont worry unless of course they are having shed problems or dehydrated.

I don't think i would use cork board only cause it is difficult to clean...i use paper towel cause it makes clean up really easy...i heard that tile(thin stuff so it will allow heat through) is good if you are going for something prettier...but paper towel is the way to go in my opinion.
