I thought that I saw aspen bedding as well. I've been using some of my old Repti-bark as mulch around my trees.

It's not how many snakes you have. It's how happy and healthy you can keep them.
HA HA , You got where the first one to get it right Toby.
I spread the shavings around my property. I go through so much of it that I fill a couple trash cans a week.
So if you ever see a house with shavings around it you know there is a herper living there
As I said in my post, I tend to put substrate around my trees as an extra mulch, but I have some concern about that practice. For the four summers that I've been here, I've always had good populations of green anoles and house geckos living all around my house. I like seeing them there. In addition to the fact that I just like reptiles, I like the fact that they will eat bugs that try to come into my house and may serve as food for blue jays or loggerhead shrike if either of those birds were to come past my property. I've had my snakes since October, so this will be the first summer since I began putting substrate
Do people think that the scent of my kingsnake on the substrate would scare any of the lizards away from my house?

I don't think the smell will last that long after it sits in sunshine and rain for a season or two.
I have skinks and anoles around the house.
be sure to WASH your hands after playing near the aspen dumping grounds

...think that they all got away on their own. so keep this our little secret.the little snakes are going to go live in rainbow land and eat cotton candy if we never tell daddy...
...three days later...
"mommy, is daddy going to always be running around outside with that pillowcase with just a bath robe on crying to St.Anthony?"
"no dear he is just making sure that all the snakies are in rainbow land.remember not a word."

Tag! You're it!
I liked that caption. Its original and funny.
Here is a close up of the snakes. A Ghost brooks and a patterless side (whiteside?) hypo. The patternless has yet to be proven out. I am breeding her to it male sibling this year. I am also going to try her with my whitesided axanthic to see if there is any relation to the WS trait.
more pics
glad I jumped over it.
