Hi I'm new, meet Thanatos

styric Mar 15, 2006 12:52 AM

Meet my year and a half old grayband. We're from Canada, and she was wondering if I had brought her some edibles

I looked but didn't say anything. Nice grayband, looks like a classic light Blair's which I like. Welcome.

Thanks everyone

She's our first snake and we've had her since she was a month old, and has never ever been a picky eater. She'll eat f/t right out of your hand and try and stuff herself silly.

She's a talented escape artist, having figured out how to remove and lift two types of lids so far. I was told GBKs prefer to stay hidden and in their hides, but she climbs like a monkey and is quite social. Even comes out to greet visitors.

That pot is her one obsession besides food, if it moves she stares at the spot it used to be until I put it back.

I read, too, but I didn't post. Now I am. Awesome GBK. I am a GBK Lover. Nice horse also. Do you herp hunt on horseback. That would be really cool. Derek

Gee Derek, why does that alterna on top look like a Doherty Black Gap??? ::)))

That is because it is. Actually all 3 are. Here is 1 more. I am getting ready to put a non locale pair together. I am still trying to get the one you are talking about to eat unscented. I use a tiny little piece of house gecko. I may brumate her for a couple weeks while it still a little cool here. Do you think 2 weeks is enough to get her to eat unscented? Derek

By the way, how is your breeding going. That was pretty good of you to notice. Don't you have a sibling to her? How is it doing? Here is the pair I am getting ready to put together.

Yes, I knew she was a sibling to mine. They are pretty much identical. Mine is pounding f/t pinkies as well as live, graduating to a little larger food now. I lost my male, but the female is doing awesome. I had one pair of my Mandarins hook up two nights ago, am expecting Dumeril's Ground Boas, but there has been no other breeding activity yet, or that I have noticed. The big project at this time are my Diamond pythons. Working on it now. Hopefully I will have a good clutch this year. Good luck with that alterna. I cannot say whether or not the two week brumation thing will help or not, but I cannot see it hurting anything. One thing I have noticed about alterna from the far west localities is when you are purchasing a captive born, no matter if it's not the one you really want, ALWAYS take the fatter more healthier ones VS. the thin, cooler patterned ones. They don't seem to make it before they change over for you. It's always the cooler looking ones that are thin!

Did you take a picture of your sibling? I think mine will make it. She takes f/t with only the tiniest piece of house gecko. I still have 3/4 of it left.LOL. What happened to your male? She is definately the nicest one I have. I have another one that is pretty nice, too, but not as nice as the female. I'll probably put them together when they are ready. Here is a pic. Derek

He just cratered. Ate a couple of times, then just passed. It happens sometimes. I have posted a picture of this snake a while back with a bunch of others. I have to run right now, but will post one later on this evening.

alterna63 Mar 19, 2006 07:26 PM

This is the one that cratered on me. The other one I will post later.

That is just aweful! Sorry to hear that. That is a beautiful GBK. I like going to Dan Johnson's website to look at the snakes he's had over the years. I have seen some of his adults that look like that with the nice washed out saddles. Derek
