I have a Cal king and I have corns. I only have the one female king. Should I even try crossing them? How much at risk would my corn be? And info on breeding this mix would be nice.

hi ya
its allways best to have pairs to get both partys in the right mood but it can and has been done without stimulation from there own many times with success.

The best thing for you to do is get your male corn really stimulated with the female corn but dont let them hookup, then introduce him to the female king and see what happens. be ready to split them up if things look bad.

only try this if your king and corns have been brumated.

also remember there is always risk involved nomatter what the situation is, im sure many of us that hybridize have problems now and then. i have a female jungle (cali x corn) that wont mate to either a jungle or cali or corn but would happily kill them, Crazy .

Give it a try, keep your eyes open and be ready to split them up.

Good luck with what you decied to do and keep us informed of your results.

I have a female king, and a male corn and do not need a male king to trick the female I just get the male corn going. My king female is a puppy dog and does not mind the corns at all. I actually place all three snakes, (the male corn, female corn and female king) in a bin together and just make sure the right tails get lined up, it works for me.

And you do not need your snakes to brumate, I hatched out 12 jungle corns 2 years ago and the female was not brumated!

Now I tried breeding my corn to a mexi black king and she tried to eat him in a split second of introducing him! So every snake is different.

Hey Sarah
Just because it works for you that doesnt mean it will work for everyone else.

I gave advice you just promoted what works for you.
And if you dont need to brumate then i have just wasted 25 years of brumating for a 3 month period in each one of those 25 years.
Hmm

Yeah it works for me, but your method works for you, right? I dont understand why I got you upset. My advice, is just that, advice, not the rules. I never said YOU HAVE TO DO IT MY WAY.

And it's true, very true, you do not need to brumate to breed, it has been proven countless times. Do I brumate every year? YES! I even brumate yearlings! HOWEVER, in this instance, the female had NOT been brumated, and laid a beautiful and 100% fertile clutch.

I never said my way or the highway. I did say, this works for me, take it with a grain of salt if you must.

Sorry!

Hey Sarah you dont have to say sorry to me.

Its just that the origanal poster was asking help/advice, so i thought the dont need to brumate thing was a little off, Going by the original post i would presume that this would be that persons first attempt at such a cross.

and sure many snakes will mate and produce valid eggs, i have a few that doit for me, but unless you know your snakes produce viable sperm and eggs without the brumation it would possibly be a waist of that persons time to try without brumation.

Sorry for getting up your nose sarah.

and good luck with your breeding season, i hope you produce some great lookers.
