rudicollis diet

chuck911jeep Mar 15, 2006 11:23 AM

Hi!
Somebody told me rudicollis can't live a long healthy life feeding on rodents. He told me the rodent hair can't be digest and cause intestinal occlusion, causing death. He also told me high T° basking is not good for them, cause they don't support heat well. I disagree with those fact but would like to know opinion from people breeding or keeping them since a while. What you guys think about this?
Thank's
Justin

Hahahahaha!
You shouldn't be on your way to come here you either than make me realise how credulous i can be.

Thank's.

I tot you where joking because this subject has been around for decades. You can read this nonsense in older literature, documented by authors who never really kept this specie, or has kept them in poor husbandry. Unfortunately some keepers are still passing on this wrong information.

Take care my friend

Mine are fed rodents and have temperature choices the same as my other monitors. I have heard the samething about other monitors too (dumerils, blackthroats, etc.) yet have not had any problems. I'd like to know what has made people say these things. I have never heard of any proof of the digestive system being different from one monitor to the other.
