Question for experienced breeders.......

AshLopez Mar 15, 2006 01:34 PM

My 23 month old male poss super has been courting my female since November. She clearly is producing egg follicles. He STILL hasn't given up and continues to breed her with the occassional break for food or water. It looks like nothing is happening.Could it be she's not giving it up?Or does he not know how to copulate?Should I leave him in there? If so how much longer?Does it really take this long to get a boa pregnant? It has almost been 6 months.

This first pic was taken back in November pre ovulation SWELL.She hadn't eaten since September. This was when I still had a bad camera.

These pics where from January till now present day.

And let me say that I've never bred BCI either so my limited experience is with BCC, BCA.

If he's still trying to breed let him have at it(I would feed him every once in a while so he doesn't screw himself to death. Great to do when either male or female is going into a shed and courting slows down. I would never interrupt courting or copulation to feed.

Have you witnessed copulation? where you can see his hemipenis in the female?

As long as he's trying leave him in. Based on the PICs, it looks like he knows what he's doing.

With BCC, I've had it take over 5 months from the time courting started to ovulation. This is only from my personal experience.

my buddy Mark has produced his share of Boas. If he is doing the deal, let him do it. It takes as long as it takes and sometimes, it will not take at all. I have had females that have been bred for months on end and then ovulate and others that were bred for months on end and not do a thing and I have also seen them start breeding and two weeks later, have ovulation. There is just no time table and very few things are written in stone. I do believe that; premature seperation is the number one cause of screw ups though, hands down. Leave the " LOVE MACHINE " alone........Johnson Herp

I love to read these posts daily and learn as much as I can from them. I do find these pics kinda funny and cute. Look how much smaller this little guy is than the female. Too cute. Anyhow I wish you the best. Still haven't got my 1st boa yet so I'll keep reading. Gotta show coming up so maybe soon heh?

a lot better that they are still on the right track, just taking it SLOW.So I'll just leave him in and feed and give him a rest every now and then.
