Plants

birdznfrogs Jul 28, 2003 12:36 PM

Hello all,
Can someone give me a list of good plants, for my green treefrogs cage. I'm in the process of renovating his smaller 5.5 gallon, to his newer 10gallon. His subtrate is a good several inches of bedabeast, he has a water dish thats filled everyday(dechlorinated water of course), I need to get him a new backround that fits his 10gallon, he was in the 10 gallon for awhile now with all the acceries, a spider plant(WHICH IS DYING), a baby fern(Which is also starting to die), and a broad leafed tropical plant that starts with a "c" lol, sorry don't remeber the name. But long story short it's attractive, and its been thriving in every single arrangement my gtf's been through.

So, does anyone have any ideas, of good plants, that will thrive in a ten gallon?

Better yet what palnts do you have that are working, any plants you thought were dreadful,

THANX, for the input...
Steven

PS:I believe this spider plant was just sick, cause all other spider plants I've had have done well.

I will have to get back to you on the plants I have... forgotten the names...but my boyfriend will remember. I'm posting because you did not mention anything about a good light source...could that be your problem?

you should have proper lighting to grow plants. what lighting are you using? some good plants to use are- bromeliads, tillandsia, aspidistras, bired nest ferns, pothos, philodendron sp, etc.

Thanks so much Braintek, and Luke!
Lighting must be the problem as the cage has changed from its usual position within sunlight. I changed the cage, with one of my birds cages, as the shavings from two of my other birds were falling into the treefrogs tank, from there high shelf.

Should have thoughtabout that before,
I feel stupid, but haven't really thought, or updated my knowledge on lighting recently(Sort of went downhill when the chameleon passed away). So, whats some good lighting for the top of my tank.

One great species that is almost impossible to kill is pothos. (Devils Ivy) Its a great plant and can survive drought and low temps. Its great. Another one is English Ivy. This is another really really hardy plants. Um... Philedendron too... Thats all that I can think of right now. Check to see if your plants are posinous or not by clicking on the link. Hope this helps!

Um English Ivy is toxic. I wouldn't suggest that you put that in your tank. Philodendron are also toxic if the leaves are broken and depending on the weight of your frog that could be possible.
