New female veiled question

nymph Mar 15, 2006 04:23 PM

Wow. I am really surprised at how different the female is from the male. When Nigel arrived at my house, I put him in his enclosure, misted, he drank and ate right away. He was fine. My new female arrived today, one eye was swollen, and she would only open it a little and kept rubbing it on the cage. I put her in her enclosure and she turned dark brown. She is lighter now but will only turn green and brighten up if I hold her. The breeder said that I should use the Refresh tears, which already helped a little, and give her time to acclimate. She drank, but is still brown. The temp is optimal in the cage so I think she must just be stressed. Has anyone else experienced this kind of response after shipment?? Thanks.

This really made me think about what Tyler said about not labeling the box. I wonder if she got mishandled and her eye got scratched, or something in it???

She may just need to settle in for a few days. She probably has something in her eye, mist her really good and she might be able to get rid of it. Bad things can happen when they don't label the box. I received two Ambilobe Panthers a few months back. When they arrived the UPS guy just left them on the porch. It was really cold that morning and I was waiting for them so I was sitting right there but he didn't ring the doorbell or anything. I was stunned and I just wonder what might of happened if I had been upstairs and had let them sit on the porch for a couple of hours. You can't blame UPS because they don't have any idea what is in the box when it isn't labelled. On the other hand I have been told by UPS not to put too much on the box. This is a quote " A lot of the morons in the back look at a box that says "Fragile handle with care" as if it says "Kick me!"" Shipping is a real gamble and there is only so much the breeder can do. However I think sending out a box that isn't labelled is just asking for trouble. I also agree, Tyler packs a really good box.
