From an earlier Thread...Strawberry ??

kriswaters Mar 15, 2006 09:49 PM

I was reading about cricket keep'n down bellow, and saw that strawberries was included. Is it ok to gut load with strawberries? I happened to drop a cut piece into a batch of "way to big for Squig crixs" (hubby bought), and they tore it up!!! Didn't know if it was ok for the chams....

Interested in hearing the feed back on this one.

I feed my veiled strawberries directly and he loves them

I'm sure they are fine for gutloading if they are good for the cham to eat by itself!

Hey Kris - Luna loved strawberries! that and butternut squash were her two favorites. Yes, it is perfectly OK to include in a gutload. Here is a great fruit/veggie (and a few others) nutritional link. It is geared to bearded dragons, but can be a reference for gutloading and as well as feeding veiled chams

mmmm...strawberry

They are fine - I also have fed them directly. They love strawberries. My veileds like hibiscus blossoms, grapes, and strawberries, in that order.

They usually go up to them and bite them, using a completly different feeding mechanisim than they do with insects (they often shoot first, then go for bites). It's funny to watch them take a neat bite from a big berry. They love them. A good way to keep them lean without having to starve them.

what fruits and veggies are the most nutritious for them????

lele Mar 16, 2006 02:14 PM

they usually don't begin to eat veggies until they are about 6 months or older. However, I have a pic of Luna at about 4 or 5 months with a mouth full of Kale (it's pretty funny).

In my post above (the one with pic of Luna) I linked you to the nutrition chart I suggested. Quite helpful
