You mentioned they were mouse eaters. How many mice do they eat at each setting?

rwoodyer Mar 16, 2006 10:18 PM

The most I have ever fed the male is 3 in a week. The female has eaten as many as five at a time (50 grammers) which is approximately equal to a pretty large (250 gram) rat. The last time I fed her she still wanted more after 5 mice

However, I currently have a normal hatchling that eats with the same fury, but she likes rats. She hatched this October (05) and is currently at 700g. I think she will make 2000 by breeding season.

The male hit 1000 grams at 7 months old. The female hit 1000 grams at 11 months old, they both were off feed this winter, so had they kept eating, then they would be big for mouse eaters. I am only going to feed her mice, just so I can prove that mouse eaters can get to 4000 grams...lol

BTW she has eaten as many as 20 mice in one week...so at this point switching to rats might be better, but she doesn't want anything to do with them...oh, well.

Where do you find 50g mice? That is about the size of a small rat.

small rats ~ 75 grams

retired breeder mice also ~ 75 grams

small mice ~ 20-30 grams

anything smaller is a waste of time in my book
