how long for a snake to finish mating?

kirkpatrick Mar 16, 2006 08:23 AM

my male banana cal king was locked up with one of my pueblan/nelson females for hours, but the pueblan/nelson male only hooked up for not even a minute once then a second time shortly after for a few minutes. Did he finish or does he maybe have problems in that department? I will still try to get them to breed a few more times, but its just a little tricky. the males seem to have a little trouble hooking up with the females, might help if i tricked the females to. Anyway the question was could he have finished in that much time? I'm sure different snakes will take longer or shorter but hours compared to minutes i wasn't really sure.

Hybrid breedings times from what I've seen are dependent on the female's species I haven't proven this yet but from all the info I've read so far thats what it seemed to indicate.

The only times I have on hand though are:
Lampropeltis Getulus 60 min.
Pantherophis G. Guttata 30 min.

sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Maybe everyone working with hybrids should invest in stopwatchs so we can get a better idea of what is going on.
