First capture of the year

RobertPreston Mar 16, 2006 08:41 AM

As the weather has warmed tremendously in the last week down here in south Georgia, I decided it was time to put my snake bucket back in my pickup. I always keep my tongs behind the seat, but the bucket gets removed during the winter. I put the bucket in my truck around noon Saturday, and by 4 p.m. it was occupied by this little beauty. Not bad for the first snake of the year, huh?

Anybody got any tips for downloading pictures? I'm really stoked about catching this guy, and I'd like to show him off.

Maybe this will work.

You can see the little guy's pattern pretty good here.

Very nice
Is there something wrong with the tail?

I don't think so. I haven't looked at the tail closely to see if there is anything wrong with it. He doesn't have a rattle, so he doesn't make much of a sound when he's upset. I'll take a closer look today. He seems pretty mild mannered. When I had him out taking the photos, he wouldn't coil. He seemed satisfied to crawl around and check things out.

Nice catch!

You're quite lucky over there in the east, winter just started in California! We had 60s all winter until March, now its cold out. Hope it warms up soon so I can get back to finding snakes.

It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long the grasshopper stored up acorns for winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched tv. And then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus stole all his acorns, and he got a race car. Is any of this sinking in?
