I know you guys have discussed this before but could any of you give me any suggestions on how to create a vivarium from a tank stood up on its side?

Well, you need to buy two pieces of glass (from a local glass place). Mine charges $4 a square foot. One piece will be the bottom of the front of the tank. You will silicon this piece in place (I make my bottom pieces 6" tall and as wide as the rim). Then you will silicon a hinge to that piece and to the other piece. Then you will need a some kind of latch and a knob. I've never attached a picture before, but this is a pic of one of my doors. Pretty dirty though!

Josh-
what kind of latch do you use to keep the door from falling open? Is there any way to attach the door so it opens from the side? and do you need a vent of any kind?

I use what's called an "acrylic door latch" for the door latch. Yeah, you could assemble it to open from the side. You could fashion it like the front of the new exo-terras to make it open from the side.

I don't use any vents, but others do.
