Wierd, bp self-cannibalization???

bpconnection Mar 16, 2006 11:37 AM

OK...Here's something crazy, strange I came across this morning...has anyone else heard of this.

I have a bp that hasn't eaten in a couple months...ok...not a prob. Well, this morning, he had a large "poopie" in his bin. "Wierd!" thought I, as he hadn't eaten (notice the pirate voice there?).

I looked closer at it to see what was in it, and I found that it was a shed! The poop had the uric acid clump, a small amount of feces, and the shed, all in regular shape, smell and all of a typical poop. My first thought was that the shed had just been rolled off next to the poop, but it hadn't! Clear as day, it was IN the poop. Has anyone else heard of this? Crazy!

He probably pooped in the shed while he was shedding and then some how turned it inside out. When a snake eats a rodent everything is digested except for a little bit of hair. If the snake had eaten it's own shed (highly unlikely IMHO) it would be totally digested and you wouldn't know it from the poop.

Corey

That was my original thought too, but looking at it, that's not what it looks like at all. I often have snakes roll out of their sheds, and this wasn't that...I'm very confident it was his poop...not just rolled in it:

It was partially digested, there was one srip that I could make out as a shed very clearly. The rest was slimy and as I pulled the poop apart, I could tell it had been a shed, but it looked like poop. The only reason I inspected it in the first place was b/c he shouldn't have been pooping as he hadn't eaten in 2 months.

never had a ball eat it's shed so I cannot say it would have been or not been digested

but I did have a greeri?I think it was that ate it's shed with a pink....they sort of stick together and he never stopped eating.......

and his shed came out in one piece.......just like it went in..

I thought it strange too though....
