Looking into getting a froggy

smellyocheese Mar 16, 2006 07:03 PM

The Horned Frog captured my heart. It's so adorable. I've been doing some reading and they seem pretty alright to me but I do have some questions:

- how sensitive are they towards temperature change and humidity change? i'm from Malaysia and the temperature is 28*C on average. Would daily misting be sufficient or do I have to install some sort of auto mister? I've had experience with newts and it wasn't good. It was too sensitive with the temperature and water quality. sigh.

- do they actually need special lighting? My critter room has natural (but not direct) sunlight in the day time and I only on the lights at night for about an hour when i'm feeding my critters (all happen to be nocturnal)

- do they get agressive as they age?

- how hardy are they?

thanks

p/s: I keep arachnids and a hedgehog so I have no problem with cricket and mealworm as feeders. Also no problem with it being a display pet since my other pets are not handle friendly as well.

in general pac mans are very hardy, they need the temp to stay at least 70F. regular mistings are good, but for any frog you need to have water available at all times, wither by having a glas divider or a water dish sunk into the substrate (it can't be too high because they can't climb) if heat is a problem under tank heaters work the best, just make sure it does not go under the water portion of the tank. a glass top would help a lot for keeping humidity and heat in. just don't put a basking light on top of it. contact me if you have any more questions, good luck!
