sexing a young collared

galen-pengra Mar 16, 2006 07:21 PM

i was wondering if you guys could help me out on this one. i have two young collareds, bought em when they were too young to sex accurately. one is definitly a male( i can tell because os a longer , bigger snout, blueish colors and pores. the other is not as blueish, has a blunter head and a large turquiose splotch on its chin, pores too small to be sure of which sex. the male has a small splotch too. this is my first time working with young collareds, first time with aquaflames too. i plan on breeding the male with a regular captive hatched female eastern( 2.5 years old). i dont want fighting if both aquas are males, but i'm short on large caging now. i'm sorry for no pics( i'm far to bad with tech and too lazy......) any help would be nice, maybe i'll figure out the camera and show you their babys!

Hi, sexing can be done on most C.collaris a couple days after hatching when you can pick them up, it's fairly easy when you know what your looking for heres a link at the bottom, with some pics that I have, to show the differences.

If you have any problems just holler, we can also wait for pics of your babys (take some of the vent areas also.)

Looking forward to seeing them, we love collared pics.
