skin peeling in matamata?

megalon Mar 16, 2006 08:59 PM

help!!!do turtles shed their skin,in addition to their shell plates?my mata's neck is peeling, but the underlying skin is very colorful, but not irritated or inflamed-looking.the skin on it's neck had faded recently,as far as the color goes.i just noticed this today.there are no abrasive surfaces in the enclosure, just bare glass and a little peat moss for water acidity."Jub Jub"'s appetite has never been better, cage has decent filtration, weekly partial water changes, etc.is this just something that i never noticed in my other turtles,or is this cause for concern?any help is much appreciated!
p.s.-the "shedding" area does not seem to be any more sensitive then usual,no head jerking or panic response when i touch the area w/ tweezers or my fingernail.

Yes, turtles do shed their skin, its a normal proces, especially prominent in juveniles & young, growing turtles.
