Thought this anecdote might be of interest. I have a baby ball python. Near the tail she had a cut or a bruise, I don't know what exactly. I could tell there were no mites or other organisms and though it was near the anal plate, it was above it and not looking like an infection. I was reluctant to go to a vet as my experience has been that they take a stool sample give anti-biotics, traumatize the snake in the process, and come back with negative results. Anyway, sinse I live in the Middle east and our motto is "when in doubt use olive oil", I began rubbing down the area with olive oil. Also, I figured olive oil would be safe and non-toxic and at the least, seuthe the area. This led to two sheds close together and a marked improvement in the situation. It now looks like a small cut. I still don't know what caused it or when it happened. I just thought the olive oil trick might be of interest to others.
