Hi,

I know this is probably somewhere on the forum, but how many litters did you have last year? I'm still trying to come to terms with your 136 (!) and was just wondering what average litter size was etc......

How many slugs? any idea on average gestation times including min/max please?

I don't have any brbs but wanted to see how different my animals are from brbs breeding wise.

Any info gratefully received.

Cheers

Hey Bobster, you and me both, I still can't believe how successful I was last year. For two years in a row, I increased my production by about 50 each year.

2003 36 from 4 breedings, 3 litters, 1 slugout
2004 83 from 6 breedings, 6 litters
2005 136 from 7 breedings, 6 litters, 1 slugout

2005 was with 6 previously bred females and one new adult female I rescued, have no history on her. The viable litters were fairly uniform, low of 18, high of 28 averaged 22 2/3 per litter. 5 of the 6 viable litters had slugs and one had three stillborns, total of 16 slugs, 3 stills. (may have been more slugs, BRB's are notorious for eating slugs)

The non viable litter was 9 slugs and 17 stillborns.

Gestation length, really don't know. I harem breed and just let them do their thang. Had two harems last year, 1.4 and 1.3 (btw, the nonviable litter was one of the 1.3's) I set the harems up in february and left them together til summer, well after all breeding activities had stopped.

Litter dates:

08/06
08/21
08/21
08/23
08/24
10/13

Seeing as you harem bred, don't suppose you got shed dates?

Did your females generally stay away from each other before you separated them - during early gestation?

Out of interest, how old is your oldest breeder female.

Thanks again for the info!

ummm, no shed dates, I remember Jeff saying he used to keep that data and could not find a correlation between shed date and parturition (sp).

Once they get done with breeding the females seemd to find a moist hidbox and lay there, not a lot of activity. Sometimes more than one in a tub. They will move to the water bowl for a nice soak.

My breeder females are:

1 - 1993
3 - 1994
2 - 2001
1 - Unknown, I estimate 01 or 02
