It's a beautiful snake, but it is irresponsible to call it a "vanishing pattern thayeri" as it was called on the general kingsnake forum. It is clearly a hybrid, and the main problem many of us have with hybrids are that they are often mislabeled as something they're not. Do the responsible thing and identify what kind of cross it is, or make up some new name for it, but dont call it a thayeri.
Peace,
Greg
Greg,
I agree, be true in its description (not currently standing on my soap box). I'm not into hybrids but each to their own.
However, i have some aberrant thayeri that are similar to this, which I purchased from the most reputable of thayeri breeders.
Are you to say there is no such thing as vanishing or aberrant pattern thayeri unless it is a hybrid? I'm just curious of your opinion...Below are some 05's i purchased (previously posted)
Have a great weekend

There are lots of abberant thayeri, including some with broken or "vanishing" patterns. I have seen photos of wild collected thayeri that fit this description, and own one that has a broken pattern myself. Yours look like pure thayeri, the one posted at the top of this thread doesn't. Maybe the person that posted the photo will enlighten us. He hasnt denied any of the claims made by others on this forum or the general kingsnake forum that it is a hybrid, and he is a regular poster on the hybrid forum (check it out).

Hey, thanks for the reply Greg.
I'm always looking for people’s opinion on the subject when it comes to thayeri.
cool looking snake but obviously not pure thayeri as the King descrived in his post. Better to state it's origin and genetic pool so we can all appreciate it for what it is.

P.S. Now if you could produce one of those in a neon green with purple stripes I'll take two.
Great looking hybrid mixes.
As long as they're labeled and identified correctly, to each his/her own.
HHHHHmmmmmmmmm........I wonder why thayeri genes are so desirable in creating hybrids? ............Could be because it's just like eating some Skittles candy and the rainbow colors that occur naturally in this subspecies?
The varietability of thayeri is truly one of those very cool special wonders of nature.

I think hybrids are unfortunate, due to this practice, one day blood lines and gentics will be obsolete. There will be no art form as far as matching and pairing up for specific traits. it will just be one big jumble of gentics that no one will have any clue what will be produced. In my personal opinion i would like to see snakes stay pure. I think anyone that is an enthusest of certin subspecies is doing themselves a great injustice to mix blood lines with another. i guess as all others have said though, to each his own.
