Caging...

senorsnake Mar 17, 2006 11:28 AM

We're switching to stackable caging, I was looking around and boaphile seems to have one of the best prices. My question was is length more important than height? Does anyone with these cages have problems getting their large (9' ) boas in and out of these 11.5" tall cages?

IMO, have the 11.5" boaphiles and only one large boa so far (the rest are still younguns) She's not real difficult to get out but I could see if you had a persnickety one, it could be a handful. I'm planning on getting the taller ones for breeding purposes. I feel the 11.5's are good for housing one boa only.

know anyone who keeps a 9ft. boa in a Boaphile. I however did have a 6.5ft. Boa in a 421D and he had plenty of room.

I use the 421Ds for all my big boas. I haven't had any problems, and think 11.5 inches is perfect.

A 9ft. boa might need a bigger cage in general. The biggest I have personally kept was the 6.5 ft. male so I wouldn't be able to help you there.

We were debating between the 6'x2'x11.5" and the 5'x2'x17.5" cages that they sell, which is why i was wondering if length is more important than height. The other poster brought up a good point about breeding, what is your ideas on height and breeding, is it necassary?

We keep our breeders in 421D Boaphiles and they work fantastic.
There is ample space for most boas through adulthood. Boaphiles are great cages and Jeff Ronne is really easy to work with as well.

is more important than height, in my opinion.

I just purchased some of these from Ed Lilley. They are bigger/stronger than some of the others out there and I think they are reasonably priced. They also have some new sizes out. Check them out at Northwest Constrictors... I really like them! I have visions, b.a.r.r, and some other odds and ends. The PROLINE are my favorites...GOOD LUCK
P.S. Listen to everyone's opinion and do what YOU think is best!
