Fuzzy Eggs

sned25271 Mar 17, 2006 01:02 PM

Hi,

My eggs are a little over 2 weeks into incubation and almost all of the eggs are getting fuzzy mold. I am keeping the humidity at about 80% and the vermiculite was set up with the 1:1 ratio when I started incubating. Is this just a bad clutch or can I save these eggs?

Thanks

1:1 (Vermiculite to water) seems a little much no? Mine was (using 50% Vermiculite and 50% Perlite) with it JUST moistened and it keeps up for 2 weeks now before I have to add a few dribbles of water in.

At the beggining, instead of pouring water in the egg tub, I misted the top, then mixed it up, misted again, mixed it, misted... etc. I think this helps to not completely saturate the vermiculite/perlite.

That sounds like a lot of water to me too. I also use the same technique Will does with misting then mixing and so on. I think that’s a really good way to evenly distribute the water.

I agree with everybody else, your mixture is too moist. I would spray the eggs with Dr. Scholl's Althelete's Foot spary and prepare another container with 70% (or less) water to the weight of the vermiculite. If you are able to kill the mold then transfer the eggs to the new container. Good Luck.
