Moving in April or May

Honistie Mar 17, 2006 03:03 PM

My family and I might be moving to Puerto Rico and I was wondering how we should move out Ball Pythons. I do not want them to have to much stress.

I am also wondering if anyone here knows how I can find out if I can take my rodents with me. A link or something that could help me get that information. I have been looking around and I have not found the right places. I have heard that some places have bands on some animals.

Thank you for any help.

It's easy for our fingers to get ahead of our brains when we are typing on these forums, and I don't like to make a big deal of small errors in grammar or spelling. Likewise, I don't want to embarrass anyone in public. At the same time, I'm noticing a couple of places where people talk about "bands" on animals. A "band" is a bunch of folks playing musical instruments or an object that encircles some other object. A "ban" is a law or regulation prohibiting the ownership, sale, or transportation of something. On these boards, we all know what someone is saying and it isn't a big deal. I don't know or want to know whether any of you knew the difference or whether you just had a typo.

On the other hand, when someone talks to a legislator about lifting a ban on some animal or talks to an agent of some regulatory bureaucracy about whether an animal is covered under a ban, using the right word is probably a good idea. An agent who has someone coming to him worried about "bands" on animals may assume that someone who doesn't know the difference between "ban" and "band" may not know enough to keep animals responsibly. Maybe it shouldn't be this way, but the impression we create when we make this kind of mistake can hurt us sometimes.

In any case, good luck on your move. I had a colleague who moved there in 2002 to work in a refinery. I think he's returned to the states, but he loved it there. I'm not good with other languages, so I couldn't see myself going. However, I'd think that it would be a neat place for many people. I hope your snakes make the trip safely and comfortably.

Well I just want to say that I have not spoken to anyone about the ban of animals I was just wondering where I could go on the internet or elsewhere to find out the information. Sorry about my spelling I was in a hurry as I usually am when I am on the computer for I am at work 99% of the time.

I have been to Puerto Rico many times and it is wonderful there. That is where my husband is from. I still would like to know how to get my animals there as stress free on them as I can.

All of my pets have locks on their homes so they can not get out. I am responsible enough to make sure they are safe. I also know that if I can not take them with me that there are two wonderful pet stores that will take them for me. The ones I am concerned about are the rats. I think I have seen the gerbils and mice there before.

I just do not want to waste all the money I have invested in them. That is why I am asking for any places I can check out on the net before I go calling around on the phone and talking to machines. I hate machines.

Again, I understand being in a hurry and making typos. I just wanted to raise a word of warning for more formal and important communications. The only thought that has come to me about where you could get information is the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Because Puerto Rico is a U.S. possession, our federal bureaucracies may control these kinds of things. If I were you, I'd search their website.

Good luck,

Bill
