louiec Jul 28, 2003 02:47 PM

I was wondering if anyone has any quick recepies that they have made up (or learned of) for Beardie Salads that can be wuickly made in the morning before work.

Also I know some of you use lil chooper or dicers to chop ur veggies up... does anyone have any suggestions? or places (on the net if possible) that I can order some?? Thank you in advance

i buy bags of pre chopped collard greens, these are used for the base of my salads, i throw a bunch in a bowl and then add things like escarole, endive, dandelion greens, and other things from the garden. The collard greens keep very well, are perfect as a base to a dragon salad and the majority part of my salads are made up of them, its quick just to add a few other things to the salad base, at least i find it to be, not sure if that was much of a help.

I do. There are no pesticides used in my yard. I have only edible plants for the beardies outside (daylillies, spider plants, hostas). I also grow dandelion and clover for them. My beardies absolutely LOVE the clover and dandelion flowers.

usually all I do is grab a couple leaves of collard greens, dandelion greens, endive and escarole, wash them then chop them up. I put a paper towel into a sandwich bag and put the chopped greens into it, with another paper towel on top. This usually lasts me about 5 days before I have to make another batch. The paper towel absorbs moisture and keeps the greens from going bad before they are used up.

preparation time is about 5 minutes, so is perfect to do while waiting for a kettle to boil for coffee.

I don't use blenders as it typically turns the greens into a coarse mush and it doesn't take that long to finely chop up a few leaves of greens. The method I use may not work so well for people who have a large collection of dragons but works great if you have one or two.

I mix up quite a large batch twice weekly, so I don't think my method would work for you.
I will tell you this though... blenders and such generally just make a mush that my dragons won't eat. So, everything they get is chopped by hand! It's just easier for me to chop it up, rather than get the blender / dicer or whatever out, put it all together, put the greens, etc in and then having to stand there and wash it all up piece by piece before you can put it away in the cupboard again.
