Man I love Aspen!!!

madisonrecords Mar 17, 2006 05:18 PM

Just cleaned the snake room in record time. This is just part of the snake room in the pic. I use to be totally against using anything but newspaper, but I am glad that after 20yrs, that I seen the error of my ways! Aspen is quick and easy and the snakes love it and burrow in it and it just feels more natural too them. Thanks, Gus for showing me the light!......Johnson Herp

I love that stuff too, easy, cheap and if your really busy you can spot clean until you have enough time to clean it. Now tell that 13 footer of yours to give me some babies!

those " Unknown Locality " Boas to do the same! I tell you buddy, I do not think she is going to do it this year, unless she throws a miracle, but that is O.K. She will be prime next year and should do the deal.....Johnson Herp

Madisonrecords, can you post a pic of that BCC with that huge head? I can't find it and my girlfriend doesn't believe it is 7 inches from eye to eye. Do you have a pic with your hand in it or something to show how gigantic the head really is? Good luck with your pairings this season. Thanks in advance.

the seven inch thing, was a joke and there was a couple that did not seem to get the " pun of it. " Anyway, it is close to six inches across and here is a couple of shots. Keep in mind, the male pictured is over 8ft and very girthy and had a huge head in his own right. I have had some people that want me to take a picture holding her, but I do not disturb her for such things. There were a number of people that got to see her, when she was still in Florida and they can vouch for her enormous size. I have had alot of huge females over the years and have seen many many more. She has the largest head, of any Boa that I have ever seen or heard of.....Johnson HErp

That is one big mama. I can only imagine what it would be like to clean up after her. Something you only have to do rarely I hope. Thanks for posting the pic.

I would love to switch to aspen, but ain't no way I'm handling my 6' female when in "feed mode." Do you just brush it aside during feeding? BTW, since this pic, I cover the left side just like you do, except I use tin foil (less light-more heat retention.)

disregard the speaker in the pic-wifey put the stereo there that day and I promptly put it in another room.

I feed right on the Aspen. They do not feed off of newspaper in the wild and they are actually pretty good at cleaning the prey while swallowing.......Johnson Herp

Are those VE-175s you have? I have a few of those but I'm having trouble getting the temps up for my pythons and boas (my boas are too small now but they will get in the empty tubs next year). So how do you heat those? I also plan to have a melamine rack built for them, they are a pain to move around when stacked.

It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long the grasshopper stored up acorns for winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched tv. And then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus stole all his acorns, and he got a race car. Is any of this sinking in?
