African spur tortoise very sick

schyler Mar 18, 2006 12:13 AM

I picked up my baby tortoiseto soak him for a while and it started making little squeaky noises. then it was stretchin its neck and legs out like it was hurting. THEN, he pooped so i figured he was just constipated or something but then he stretched, squeaked, peed and foamy spit came out of its mouth.

i have no idea what to do for him, all the vets are closed. if anyone has any ideas on what this could be or what i should do, post or email at chevago529@yahoo.com, or AIM is: bargel03. any help would be appreciated, i'm so worried.

This sounds like it's mainly a defense behavior, or I'm pissed off behavior. Legs out, head out, sometimes shaking back and forth, peeing, defecating...

The froth from the mouth might be a concern, but nothing that needs to be seen this second. Call the vet in the morning and have it checked out if you're concerned.

IF things change, other symptoms appear, your tort becomes listless, or has a hard time breathing, then call your local after-hours emerg. clinic. If you're lucky they'd at least see your tort and help it through until a DVM more familiar with reptiles can see it.
